It’s time to let Giancarlo Stanton have some peace in his home stadium. Enough is enough.. Some Yankees fans have had their say. They are not happy Giancarlo Stanton is on the Yankees and they have made their voices heard. You’ve made your point, now let it go. Giancarlo Stanton isn’t going anywhere. He did not opt out of his contract when he had the chance. He has a no trade clause in his contract and he isn’t going to demand a trade. Even if he did demand a trade, who is taking him? How many teams would he accept a trade to? How many of those teams would want him?
Giancarlo Stanton is here for the next 7 years. Yankees fans aren’t going to be able to force him out. It’s not happening.
Once that is accepted, then we can move on. We need to show the guy some support. That doesn’t mean a phony “rah-rah” reception when he comes to the plate. Just let him have his peace. Booing him to the extent that he’s being booed in his home stadium isn’t going to make him a better player.
I don’t know about you but I have had it with the World Series drought. I want my players to be happy and healthy. We’ve seen what Giancarlo Stanton can do in the playoffs. He carried us in the Wild Card round of the 2020 playoffs. He wasn’t playing in Yankee Stadium so some pressure was off. Think about that! He is more comfortable on the road than in his home park. Is making the guy miserable at the expense of the team really a good idea? Is it really necessary?
We’ve seen what jeering a guy unmercifully at Yankee Stadium does. It makes him angry, it makes him frustrated, it drives him mad. Heck, we got Jack McDowell to flip off the entire stadium because he couldn’t handle it.
The best and most recent example of this was Alex Rodriguez. Fans seem to draw similarities between Stanton and A-Rod. But let’s really think about that for a moment. Other than the $25 mil a year the Yankees are on the hook for, what else do they have in common?
A-Rod was an utter embarrassment as a Yankee. Stanton has never been caught with his mistress in the stands. Stanton has never tried to slap a ball out of a fielder’s glove thinking that would avoid a tag. Stanton has never shouted “I got it” hoping to make an infielder back off from a pop up. Stanton has never been busted for steroids. Stanton has never thrown a ball with his phone number/room number (I forget which) to a woman in the stands on a night he was riding the bench.
Do you see my point? Giancarlo Stanton is not Alex Rodriguez. Giancarlo Stanton. Is. NOT. Alex Rodriguez.
Giancarlo Stanton is the opposite of Alex Rodriguez. He’s been a class act, not a single controversy. He answers questions from the New York media with genuine answers. He’s not a fraud who just says what he thinks writers want to hear. Heck, he’s shown more patience to Yankees fans than they deserve. I just mentioned Jack McDowell, in all fairness Stanton should have flipped off the Stadium a dozen times by now. Instead, he’s been a stand up guy.
Thinking of Stanton as another A-Rod is a deep-seated reason why Yankees fans won’t give Stanton a break. That thought process is wrong. Let the guy be and I think there is potential to unleash a beast. Let’s give him the chance and end this title drought.
